915 Oak Ridge Drive in Joyner
Basics: 3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms; 1,838 square feet on a corner lot of .93 acres; built before 1960
Description: Historic Joyner neighborhood is filled with homes big on charm and character, but sometimes small on size and modern amenities. Not so with this house - you sacrifice nothing and gain a whole lot. First of all, this house on Oak Ridge Drive does have charm to spare. It is a gorgeous home to look at from the street. Framed by towering shade trees, the home has a classic American look. The small porch area makes it extra welcoming. Once inside, you find out why this house is so special. While many homes in Joyner feel a little too cozy with small tight spaces, this house gives just the opposite feeling. It has a very large living room with built-in bookshelves and a wood-burning fireplace. The hardwood floors are original to the house and in great condition. There is a dining area connected the living room, and just beyond that a phenomenal kitchen. The kitchen is probably one of the home's strongest features. Like the living room it is wide open and beautiful. It has plenty of cabinetry, a center island, and stainless steel appliances. It is also very well lit by large windows.
The master suite starts with a large bedroom. Again, the hardwood floors are in perfect condition and really lend character to the room. The master bathroom has a large jacuzzi tub, separate walk-in shower, and pedestal sink. It is comparable in size to modern bathrooms, which is much larger than the typical home in Joyner. The other two bedrooms are comfortable, with the back bedroom actually being fairly large. They share a hallway bathroom. One thing that does need to be said is that the plumbing throughout the house is new. That's a major bonus in a home over 50 years old. There is a good-sized laundry room and lots of built-in storage cabinets throughout.
The backyard begins with a great outdoor deck. It is an L-shaped deck with an area to the left with a grill and seating area, then an area to the right with an umbrella table. The deck overlooks half of the backyard, including a storage building. The other half of the backyard is around the corner of the house. It is almost entirely shaded by tall trees. There is also a storm shelter. On a practical level, the roof is just one year old with 35-year architectural shingles. Just for fun, there is a playground, baseball fields, tennis courts and more one block away.
If you are considering a home in Joyner, or if you are just looking in a given price range, then this house is absolutely a must see. It is a truly special house in one of Tupelo's most charming neighborhoods.
